Emma Jamieson became the next class instructor maintaining that role until 1984 when the class moved to Netherlee Pavilion.

Irene Harper was the Club Instructor from 1985 to August 2022 when Irene decided to hand over the running of the club to Debbie McAlees. Irene’s tenure as the club Instructor has been a remarkable achievement. One of the highlights of Irene’s tenure was to engage the services of the brilliant accordionist George Stirrat who played for us every week - it was a memorable time! The class met for many years in the Netherlee Pavilion but since 2017 now regularly meets in the significantly larger Clarkston Halls. The class in Irene’s time raised in excess of £13,000 for charitable causes - especially for cancer relief.

In 1963/64 a group of twelve Scottish Country Dancers met in Len Whittet’s house in the Clarkston area to practice demonstration dances for the RSCDS. There was soon sufficient interest to justify booking the Mickel Hall and to establish a Scottish Country Dance Class.

Margaret Allan ran the class whenever Len could not attend.

During the early 1970’s Ella Nimmo took over the class instructor’s job for a short time

The club web site was set up in May 2004 and to date does not have a domain name of its own but can be located on any search engine using ‘mickel dancing’ or ‘netherlee’ as the search field and accessed using the Netherlee Scottish Country Dance Web Site. The site is currently run by Derek Petrie.

A very special welcome to Debbie McAlees who has been good enough to take over the role of Instructor for the Mickel Scottish Country Dance Club. It would have been a very sad day for the Club to disband and thanks to Debbie & friends the club will continue to be a source of much pleasure for many people who love to dance! Debbie is an active member of Glasgow Branch and her experience and knowledge of the Scottish country dance scene will be invaluable. The class continues to run from May to September each year and begins its 2 nd year with Debbie at the helm going into summer of 2024.
