Debbie writes …..

It is with great pleasure I take over the role of instructor and the general responsibilities of this lovely dance club.

At this point I’d like to acknowledge Irene’s teaching and dedication to the club and for steering it so well for 37 years! I have thoroughly enjoyed being a member of this club for over 6 years. I hope I can bring the same level of enjoyment to the club that Irene has brought to it with all her instruction and inclusion of some unusual, challenging and interesting dances in the club programmes.

Wishing Irene all the best and great to see she is now our Honorary President.

You may want to know a little about me and my dancing background. So, I started dancing at the lovely age of 6 in my lovely native Liverpool! I was very fortunate to have Roy Clowes as my teacher (yes, the same Roy Clowes who wrote Shiftin’ Bobbins and Posties Jig). My claim to fame is I was a guinea pig for Roy when he was trying out the dances before he sent them in for publication. In my youth we danced all over Europe and the UK, which was a great experience. I continued that in my university days, dancing for both Aberdeen and Edinburgh university groups (even though I went to Robert Gordon’s University as a student!). So then to work life, I have tried to dance wherever I have been working, so Horsham, Liverpool and now Glasgow. It is at Glasgow that I had time to go for my teaching qualification and was pleased to say I passed all of the 5 units they put you through over a number of years. I now teach a beginner’s class in Westerton through September to April.

Looking forward to planning next year’s programmes I am in the process of booking Clarkston Hall. I am very excited that the club will be 60 years old in 2023 so watch this space for plans.

If any of you would like to contact me (07709 253 357) or send me any feedback, or ideas for the 60th year, please do so – you can reach me using the club email address click here or by mobile 07709 253 357.
