Ella McLean was the first class teacher in 1979 when the class began with 8 members. Organised functions since that time have raised money to donate to charities and good causes in East Kilbride. Successive classes have continued that tradition.

Anne Scott was the next class teacher taking over in 1986 during which class numbers rose to approximately 72. Anne’s favourite charity was Guide Dogs for the Blind.

Margaret Martin took over the reins in 1995 and saw the class numbers rise to over 90 members with 60 to 70 dancers attending the classes each week. Margaret retired in 2014 after 20 years in post!!.

Margaret Williamson had acted as Margaret’s deputy for many years before she took over the running of the class following Margaret Martin’s retirement in 2014

The current class teachers, sharing responsibilities, are Aileen Mairs and Patricia Leslie who took over the class in 2017.

There is no official committee, Patricia and Aileen rely on members volunteering to assist with ticket, tea and other general duties.
